Richard J. Gulick

CHATHAM- Richard Jones Gulick, 71, passed away on Tuesday March 15, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born in Peekskill NY to Harriet & John Gulick. Dick graduated from Woodberry Forest High School, Rutgers University and the University of Rhode Island. After receiving his Master's degree in Community Planning, Dick joined the Army during the Vietnam conflict. He met his wife, Laura (Lozupone) in Washington, DC where they were married in 1971. After their marriage, Dick embarked on a forty-year career as a town planner. In this role, he was responsible for guiding the future development of numerous communities throughout Connecticut and New Jersey. Dick continued his planning efforts through his last days as he worked to help improve his own community of West Chatham. He served on the town's Planning Board and volunteered with the Coast Guard Auxiliary.He is survived by his wife, Laura, daughter and son in law, Jessica and Jack Wadden and brother John N. Gulick Jr. His son, Christopher Morgan Gulick, and his mother and father predeceased him. He was delighted to be a grandfather to Christopher and Bridget for the past four years. Everyone smiles a little bigger and laughs a little harder when thinking about their times with Dick. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his family and friends. Calling hours with the family will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday March 21, 2016 at The Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by the priests from St. Mary of Magdala Ecumenical Catholic Church on Tuesday March 22, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 310 Route 137, East Harwich, MA. Burial and graveside service will be in Hillsborough, NJ in the spring.
