Environmental Police Seize Catch on Bass River

92% of whelk catch is found to be undersized...

From Massachusetts Environmental Police:

On 8/20/18 at approximately 1:30 PM, the catch of the fishing vessel Haley Marie was inspected at Packet's landing on the Bass River in Yarmouth. After gauging the entire catch of 4 totes of whelk, it was determined that nearly 92% was under the legal size limit. The permit holder was issued a summons to appear in Barnstable District Court and the undersized catch was seized and returned to the waters of Nantucket Sound
