Sandwich Home Struck by Lightning

Up to 26 firefighters battled flames for 1.5 hours...

On July 17, 2019 at approximately 2015 hrs, Sandwich Emergency Communications Center received a call for a house struck by lightning at 28 Pierre Vernier Drive. On arrival units found fire showing from the attic area. A working fire assignment was requested by Deputy Chief McMahon which brought in units from West Barnstable FD to the scene and, Cotuit FD, Plymouth FD and COMM FD provided station coverage. There were a total of 26 firefighters on scene and took 1.5 hours to extinguish the fire.

There were no injuries reported and the damage was confined to the attic and second floor area of the house. Sandwich Police Department provided assistance on scene as well.
