Cape Cod Astronomical Society - "The Basics"

January 2 in Falmouth with Dr. Jim Lynch

On January 2, the Cape Cod Astronomical Society (CCAS) will meet at a different venue. The public is welcome to join us for this free talk at 7:30 pm in the Hermann Meeting Room of the Falmouth Public Library (300 Main Street). Enter through the Meeting Room doors on Katharine Lee Bates Road.

CCAS President Dr. Jim Lynch talks about “The Basics of Optics for Amateur Astronomers.” Since Galileo, optics and optical instruments have been the "bread and butter" of astronomy. This talk covers the basic laws of reflection and refraction, the lens-makers' equation, the basics of telescopes, the diffraction limit, dispersion, optical gratings, and finally some modern optical physics.

If you’d like, join us before the talk to catch dinner with the speaker at 5:45 in Simply DiVine (271 Main Street), Falmouth.
