According to the Mass GOP website, the Massachusetts Republican State Committee is the governing body of the Republican Party in Massachusetts.
Members of the State Committee are supposed to perform a crucial role in building the Republican Party within their respective districts: recruit candidates for public office, help with fundraising, register new voters, and grow the local Republican City and Town Committees within their particular districts.
One state committeeman and one state committeewoman are elected from each state senate district every four years. This year that election is scheduled during the Presidential Primary on Tuesday, March 3rd.
The current Republican State Committeeman for the Cape and Islands District is a Yarmouth Port resident by the name of Fran Manzelli. Employing the above-noted job description as a guiding standard, in my opinion, and as can likely be viewed by most common sense individuals, Fran Manzelli has quite clearly and simply just not been doing his job.
Earlier this month, I received a letter and invitation from Mr. Manzelli regarding his January 16th re-election kickoff event for Cape & Islands Republican State Committeeman.
Unfortunately, and as I communicated to the gentleman, I could attend said event because of a previously scheduled engagement. Additionally, I was and am supporting Adam Lange for Republican State Committeeman as well.
Other than that, I also felt compelled to point out a few glaring falsehoods contained within the content of Fran Manzelli’s letter.
His letter began by mistakenly claiming, “Four years ago, you supported my campaign to grow and support GOP politics on Cape Cod.”
Actually, I could not possibly have supported his candidacy in 2016, since I ran against him.
His letter then went onto to make the untrue assertion that “We have had so many candidates win seats and incumbent Republicans KEEP their seats these past election cycles and we have more to win!”
Well, from my viewpoint, the fact that he helped cause the loss of an incumbent GOP seat on the Board of Barnstable County Commissioners (Leo Cakounes) in 2018, then the loss of two incumbent Barnstable Town Council seats held by Republicans in 2019 (including his good friends John Flores, and Phil Wallace) does not bode well for the veracity of that claim either.
Additionally, two Republican Town Committees in Truro and Wellfleet were allowed to go defunct because of his negligent lack of support and foresight.
Moreover, the radical socialist and creeping ultra-liberal political influence of State Senator Julian Cyr and his cult of crackpot disciples has had little if any pushback from Republican State Committeeman Manzelli’s sphere of influence as well.
Furthermore, according to the Secretary of State’s Office, during his tenure as Cape and Islands Republican State Committeeman, thousands of voters have fled the Republican Party on Cape Cod.
Any reasonable person can clearly see that this is not “growing and supporting” the GOP, it is depopulating and devastating it on a local basis.
The gross misrepresentations in Fran Manzelli’s letter of desperation are not only outrageous, they speak to the monumental incompetence that has been the hallmark of this gentleman’s reign in office.
It is time for new vision, new ideas, a rejuvenation of energy, and a new person to be elected to the seat that Fran Manzelli now occupies. I believe that replacement should be Adam Lange from Brewster.
