McINTYRE, Alfred S. Of Centerville, formerly of Westwood, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2016. Beloved husband of Carol D. (Marks) McIntyre, father of Thomas McIntyre of Guilford, CT and Barbara Chase and her husband Frank of Long Valley, NJ, and grandfather of Lily and Charlie McIntyre and Courtney and Conor Chase. Born in Providence, RI to the late John T. and Elizabeth A. (Mulvey) McIntyre and predeceased by his sister Eleanor and brothers John A. and Francis V. McIntyre. Al was a graduate of La Salle Academy in Providence, where he was a member of three RI State Championship football teams and played in the 1945 New Orleans Classic for the National Catholic Championship title. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army where he served in the Army of Occupation in Tokyo. He was a 1952 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross where he was a member of the football team. Al had a 40-year career with New England Telephone/NYNEX where he retired as Managing Director – Benefits. He also spent 3 years in Manhattan on the AT&T Bell Laboratories task force that developed automated "411" information service. Al was very active in the Town of Westwood where he was elected Chairman of the Planning Board, headed the Westwood Centennial Celebration Committee and coached youth sports. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 28 from 4 – 7 pm at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St., HYANNIS. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 29 at 11 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 S. Main St., Centerville, followed by burial at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Al's memory to the La Salle Fund, La Salle Academy, Providence, RI.
