Barbara J. Sylvia, 79, of North Falmouth passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Falmouth Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Frank E. Sylvia for 60 years. Born in New Bedford to Herman and Anna (Costa) Freeman. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School class of 1954. Barbara worked as a bookkeeper. She was a volunteer of Friends of Falmouth Dogs and a member of the Cape Cod Curling Club since 1979. She was an avid pianist and taught piano lessons. She was an organist for St. Peter’s Church in Buzzards Bay and St. Barnabas Church in Falmouth where she also ushered. She was a team leader for Around the Table at St. Barnabas. Barbara also enjoyed gardening and traveling around the US and Europe.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Karen Walden and husband Richard of FL, and her son Frank E. and wife Susan of Mashpee; her grandchildren: Mark Walden, Lori Walden, and Rachel Ecker; and many great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Gerald Freeman of Somerville and sister, Claire Holmes of Acushnet; and her nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, Feb. 16 in at Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 584 West Falmouth Highway (Route 28A), WEST FALMOUTH. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, Feb 17 at St. Barnabas Memorial Church, 91 Main Street, Falmouth. Burial will follow in the North Falmouth Cemetery, Old Main Road, North Falmouth.
